How are transcription and translation processes coupled?
In eukaryotes, the classical view of the central dogma assumes that transcription and translation are unconnected processes. However, many observations challenge this view and suggest that transcription as well as accompanying co-transcriptional events leave an imprint on the subsequent fate of the produced mRNA. The overall goal of this project is to decipher if suboptimal transcription is imprinted in mRNA and coincides with translation efficiency.
