When a virus becomes a Trojan horse

In an article published in Cell, Karim Majzoub’s team at IGMM and their collaborators show that some deltaviruses can spread hidden inside another virus, like a true “Trojan horse.”

These viruses, dependent on a “helper virus,” use this mechanism to infect new cells, revealing a surprising strategy that could influence their transmission, tropism, and evolution.

This discovery provides new insights into deltavirus biology and opens up fresh avenues for virology research.
