How DNA secondary structures signal gene start sites for transcription initiation

In a study published in Nature Genetics, the team of Jean-Christophe Andrau and collaborators demonstrates how DNA secondary structures, particularly G-quadruplexes, help pinpoint where transcription initiation begins. By opening the chromatin, G-quadruplexes define gene promoters in mammalian genomes.
